As many have discovered over recent years, our homes and gardens have the potential to be great sources of comfort for our wellbeing. With considered design and the presence of certain assets, our living spaces can nurture our happiness, just as their absence can lead to frustrations or even a sense of alienation.
Being directly linked with nature, our gardens are particularly valuable as sources of happiness. Wild environments have long been shown to improve mood and reduce stress, and can even be used as platforms for growing food, improving nutrition and supporting our dietary health too.
So, for those with gardens, we’re sharing six inspirational ways to transform a garden into a source of well-being.

ToggleDining Outdoors
A simple gateway to spending more time outdoors is to design a dining area, one that allows residents to enjoy their regular meals in their gardens. While few will need persuading of the reasons that outdoor dining is a wonderful experience, many are likely hesitant due to interference from the weather. Countering the climate, however, is not impossible with heat lamps and natural barriers being just two items that can create a cosy atmosphere.
Sensory Garden
For many, it is the ability of gardens to transport the mind away from urban life that creates the most recognisable sense of bliss. By creating a space that is full not only of textures, such as wildflowers and grass, but also aromas and tastes, a garden can, over the course of a year, become a haven for escape.
Indoor Entertainment
Having a space that supports one’s hobbies, especially as our living spaces become potentially more diluted with remote working, is invaluable. This is why more residents are choosing log cabins for their gardens, creating a sheltered and removed living space that can be customised and enjoyed year-round.
Planting & Growing
Eating well lifts the spirits, which is why growing one’s own produce can soon improve wellness. Even small garden spaces can likely accommodate raised garden beds or vertical planters, both of which are ideal for residents to begin planting their own ingredients. With personal control over the soil and environment, everything produced is likely not only to bring joy but also improved flavour and nutrition too!
Yoga Space
Practising yoga outside of the studio and among the immersion of nature is a wonderful experience. Gardens, as such, can be seen as more than simply a space of aesthetic value and, instead, one that supports the practice of meditation and yoga. The environment can even be designed with tall, dense shrubs and bushes, those that create an area of privacy and peacefulness.
Social Venue
Gardens can easily become spaces of community value. As skill trades and community meet-ups grow in popularity, more are utilising their garden spaces as social venues. Residents can hold regular meetups, use their outdoor space to host gardening workshops, or even create produce swaps, where locals can exchange plants and knowledge with each other.
